Fixes For 5 Popular Windows 8 Printing Issues

Windows 8 has been launched with a bang recently, proving that Microsoft is intent to maintain its stake in the technological niche with an enhanced vigor and bullheadedness. Reviews from tech critics have been generally favorable and thus far, things are looking good for Microsoft which has somehow lost its stead in the past few years. However, there have been issues raised by product users. One of these concerns is regarding the operating system’s printing function.

Here are five of the most discussed printing issues encountered by newbie users of the Windows 8.

1. Print Spooler Issues

Upon switching to Microsoft Windows 8 from its older version logically dubbed Windows 7, some users found their printers not recognized by the operating system.

This issue can be addressed through a simple printer driver update. Type run on the start search box and run this code: Services.msc. Once the services list pops out, double click the printer spooler option. Click stop and ok. Mouse over and click this code: %WINDIR%system32spoolprinters. You will then have to erase all the files from the folder, run Services.msc for the second time, and from the services list, double click printer spooler. Go back to the start button, and in the StartUp catalog, make sure to check the Automatic option then click OK.

2. Printer Compatibility

Windows 8 users who are using printers such as the Canon MF4150 and Samsung SCX-4521f have complained that their printing device was not recognized by the latest Windows operating system. Ways to troubleshoot these concerns are as follows:

Canon MF4150- Go to the printer properties window and click the Advanced Tab option. You then select print directly to the printer and in the ports list uncheck this box: enable bidirectional support.

SCX-4521F- Install a VMware virtual machine and follow the program’s instructions.

3. Printer Installation Issues

Troubleshooting installation problems can be done in three ways.

USB- Computer reboot should be done. Afterwards, run Windows Update and reinstall the driver software.

Wired Network (Ethernet)- First step is to restart all the devices in the network. After restarting, add the product, and reinstall.

Wireless- Print a test page and make certain the wireless router recognizes your printer device. If the printer is connected to the router, follow these steps: 1. Download Print and Scan Doctor. 2. Run the downloaded program. 3. Disconnect any VPN connection. 4. Disable your PC’s firewall. 5. Download and install your printer device’s required software or driver.

4. OS Drivers Printing Issues

If you connect your printer with a USB cable to your PC but the installation update does not start, you must first restart the printer. Delete the printer from the list of devices and printers and then reboot your computer. Manually install the driver by going to the Settings tab. Type devices and printers and click add a printer. Follow further instructions.

5. Printing Straight from Websites

Some customers have shared that they can no longer print website downloadables such as coupons. This can be remedied by opening a browser from Windows 8 classic mode. To go back to the classic mode from the metro mode, go to the desktop tile and click your chosen browser.
