Microsoft Internet Explorer Could Potentially Empty Your Wallet

As a computer technician, I see on a daily basis virus infections of all sizes and types. Some are simply small nuisance pieces of Malware that are geared at delivering ads while others can literally gain access to your computer without your consent or knowledge. All these infections have one thing in common. They usually enter your system through your browser. In the majority of the cases we see, Internet Explorer was used as the default browser on the system.ie-sucks-get-firefox-maxtho

Many people for one simple reason use Internet Explorer: It is included with the Windows operating system. There are tons of folks who are not aware of some of the great alternatives that are out there. An alternative browser is a good idea for security but also it is much easier to repair a stand-alone browser then it is to repair Internet Explorer

Since Internet Explorer is integrated into the operating system, if an infection causes corruption with the files that it uses, it is not just a simple uninstall and reinstall to repair it. In fact, often times the files are so corrupt that the entire operating system needs to be reloaded to repair all the errors. We always recommend to our customers to install more then one browser on their system in case of a catastrophic failure of IE.

There are lots of browsers out there to choose from but our favorites are Mozilla Firefox and Maxthon. The first one I would like to talk about is Maxthon. It is not the most famous of browsers but we have been using it for about 7 years in our office. Not only is it fast and secure, but also is almost immune to many of the nuisance tool-bar Malware that is running rampant on the Internet today. It will work perfectly in most cases even if you have problems with other browsers on your system as a result of virus damage. Using this browser can often mean the difference between a reformat and a repair.

The other browser that I would like to mention is much better known and has also been around a long time. That browser is Firefox. This browser is also very secure and although not immune to tool bar Malware, it is secure in other ways. Firefox is not quite as fast a browser as Maxthon but many folks are comfortable with the interface. It is a close second choice for most of our customers and technicians.

By simply using a secure browser like Firefox or Maxthon, you can save yourself a bundle by having to make fewer calls to your computer technician. There are occasional cases where you might be running a special program or you have to log into a special web site for your job or business. Some of these web sites are sometimes running with outdated software that will only work with certain versions of Internet Explorer. In cases such as these, you will have no choice but to use IE. In a case such as this our recommendation is to use Internet Explorer just for the software that requires it and use the alternate browsers for most of your searching.

With some simple steps, you can help put the brakes on nuisance Malware as well as full-blown infections. Try the mentioned browsers today, especially Maxthon. You will be glad you did!
