The Future of The PC-Can It Be Replaced by the Tablet?

Hi everybody today we are going to talk about the future of the PC and if the computer as we know is going to disappear. I will start out by saying that Smart phones have taken the world by storm and most of us probably have at least one Smart phone in our possession. These remarkable devices allow us to check movie times, post on Facebook and surf the web from almost anywhere. Some can even have conversations with you. They offer convenience and you never have to boot them up. This is great for some applications but their small size makes surfing the web very cumbersome. For me, a Smart phone could NEVER be a total replacement for my Good old-fashioned PC.

Another growing category of devices is the Tablet. Tablets offer a small size with touch screen convenience and uses apps instead of programs in order to run. These modern marvels allow us to post to Facebook, create paintings, check your movie times and surf the web. There are apps for almost everything you can think of and this makes the Tablet streamlined, fast and easy to use. The screen is bright and crisp but not all that big. There is no comparison to a small Tablet screen and a large crisp 19-inch monitor screen on a conventional computer system. The PC monitor is larger, allows you to see more of a webpage with greater detail. In addition, apps only have so many customizations you can make to them. When you install a program on a conventional PC, the customizations are endless.

I know a lot of experts say the end of the PC era is nearing but I think other wise. A Tablet cannot take the place of a PC in your home or business. Having a Tablet is great for a secondary computer but imagine it as your only system. There are lots of things you cannot do. For example, there is no CD-rom in the Tablet. If you have a favorite program or game, you will not be able to install it. If you have a website you need to maintain, again you will need your PC. If you require a full version of Outlook or Office, you will need your computer for the best performance.

For those of you that like to upgrade and tinker, the Tablet is not for you either. You cannot take the case apart on a tablet and add that new super video card you always dreamed about. If you are a gamer, there is no over clocking the processor or tweaking the settings to get that super fast performance for your favorite game. Maybe you’re a weather nut like myself. If I owned a Tablet, there is no way I could do what I do now and maintain my weather website. In fact, I am still a Windows XP diehard and most of my machines still run XP over the newer Windows 7. I still think it is the best OS that ever existed or ever will exist.

The answer to the main question is no. Tablets can never totally replace the conventional computer, as we know it. They are useful as a secondary system for doing tasks while laying in bed, checking the latest movie times or reading a book, but my PC is here to stay and my next new computer is going to be a desktop PC, not a Tablet.
