Charging Your Phone Without Wires May Soon Be A Reality.

Have you ever dreamed about your phone charging almost automatically without even having to plug it in? I know I do all the time ever time I see the low battery indicator come on. It never runs out of battery juice at a good time. It is almost always when you need to shoot that important picture or you have to make that urgent phone call. Today’s phones do a lot of work and they require lots of power to keep them going. For some of us, getting your phone to make the entire day without a charge can be a challenge.

You always have the mainstream options for keeping your phone charged like plugging in the charger at your office or using the mobile cord in your car. Some public areas have charging stations where you can plug in your phone to get a much-needed boost. They usually provide adapters for most of the most common phone models. This all takes time and you have to sit there and read while your phone is charging.

One company has gone as far as to provide a phone case with a built in battery that can take over when your main battery runs out. They are handy but can be a bit heavy and bulky. If you are at home, there are now charging stations you can get where all you have to do is lay the phone on the charger and the battery will be charged. This is great if you are at home but it does not help if you are out and about.

What about if you could charge your phone through the air without even laying the phone on a charging plate? Sounds like a Back To The Future idea but it is extremely close to becoming reality. The idea works by sending a magnetic charge over the air in the same bandwidth as Bluetooth and WiFi devices. Currently the range is about 30 feet from the transmitter but with time, this range can be extended farther. In reality, with this type of technology you will be able to visit your favorite WiFi hotspot and charge your phone while you talk or have a nice hot cup of coffee. This technology could be a reality as soon as 2015!

Just imagine walking through your favorite shopping mall and not having to worry about battery life. You would be getting your charge as you strolled through the shops. Just imagine traveling down your favorite highway in your Mustang while your phone charges in your pocket.  How great would it be going to your favorite theme park and being able to take picture after picture without having to worry about when your phone was going to go dead. I know myself when we take our frequent trips to Sea World. I never seem to have enough battery power to take all the pictures and videos from that late Shamu show. I am either completely down or the battery is in the red zone. It happens almost every time we go. With this new technology, these issues will be a thing of the past.

The big question is how is this new technology going to be implemented? Well once the magnetic chargers become mainstream, devices like phones and tablets will start to have the chips built right into the devices. This will make for a seamless way to keep juiced up. For older phones, you will need a dongle type of device that would attach to the phone in order to take advantage of this new technology. I can see now where this will be a better excuse then any to buy a new phone. The good news is that if this product becomes insanely popular, that will eventually bring down the cost of converting.

I think the rollout of this type of device will one of the greatest new inventions since the cell phone itself. Soon, manufacturers will be able to eliminate that pesky battery indicator that we all hate to look at because it is almost always way lower then we would like to see. The best news is that most of us will be able to see this happen in our lifetimes. A future without batteries; I am so looking forward to it!
