Dealing With A BOOTMGR Error Message , How To Fix It!

You may have noticed a BOOTMGR error pop up on your computer in one of many ways. The top one listed below is the most common, but the ones below it are also commonly seen on your computer:

  • “BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart”

 

  • “BOOTMGR is missing

 

  • Press any key to restart”

 

  • “Couldn’t find BOOTMGR”

When you first boot your system up you may notice one of the above errors. Immediately after the Power On Self Test (POST) has completed is when the error is commonly noticed. With Windows 7 or Windows Vista the error will be displayed even before the booting process has completed.

What Causes BOOTMGR Errors?

There are many different possibilities for the BOOTMGR errors. The most common reason for the BOOTMGR error is usually due to corrupt or misconfigured files or file systems. There could be a hard drive or Windows operating system update needed or the systems hard drive may have bad sectors. Another cause for the error could be related to an out of date BIOS or even loose or damaged IDE cables.

If you are trying to boot from a hard drive or flash drive that is not correctly configured you will notice that the BOOTMGR error will be displayed.

How To Fix BOOTMGR Errors

  • Restart Your PC. The error may be resolved simply by restarting your PC.
  • Check your drives, optical, floppy drives, USB ports and flash drives to ensure they are not trying to boot to a non-bootable device or media.
  • If you are trying to boot to a non-bootable device then change your boot order in the BIOS to rectify the issue. It is recommended to change your hard drive to the primary boot device to resolve an issue with an optical drive, flash drive, USB device or other media that is causing the conflict.
  • Be sure that all of your cables are seated properly and are in working order. You may need to replace an older IDE cable.
  • Perform a start up repair of Windows.
  • Create a new partition boot sector.
  • Rebuild Boot configuration Data.
  • Ensure drive settings are correct within the BIOS.
  • Update The BIOS.
  • Perform a clean install of Windows.
  • Replace The Hard Drive.

Any of these problems can be resolved easily. Be sure that you have a backup of your important system files and other documents before you perform any type of reinstall of the operating system or the actual hard drive.
