A Router Is Your Best Choice For A firewall To protect your network

I cannot count how many computers we have tried to repair and the system was so slow because of the software firewall that was installed on it. Many of the high-end anti-virus programs run a very annoying software firewall that uses plenty of computer resources and often blocks common actions like going to a web page! The truth is if you have a router installed on your network, you do not need a software firewall.

Even if you only have one computer, getting a router and adding it to your network is a better investment then buying one of the high-end anti-virus solutions. You still need anti-virus, but instead of paying a fortune for it, use one of the many readily available free versions along with your router and you will have a great defense against intruders.

Many router brands can also use third party firmware that makes the router even more configurable then the stock installed firmware that is included. If you ever have to open a port for the special use of software, it can easily be done in almost all router makes and models. One of the easiest to configure are the routers made by Cisco.

They have the features that most people will use at a decent price. They are fairly easy for almost anybody to configure.  If you need more features, you might want to consider a router made by Buffalo. These routers might set you back a bit more but they are fast routers with lots of options that will allow you to configure your network just like you want it!
