Seniors Using Computers May be Less Depressed

The new technology that we have in our lives has helped to add convenience as well as comfort to our world. With social networks, e-mails and other instant forms of communication it has made it even easier to connect with our family and loved ones. Entertainment is a huge part of our lives and computers have offered it to us in many forms, games, information, television online, movies, music and much more. With all of the conveniences and comforts given to us by computers, why would it not be a logical solution to depression to get seniors involved with them?

Communication
When it comes to communication, the lack of it can cause depression with anyone. We all need social interaction and as we age and are more unlikely to be able to get out and visit with our friends and family the more important a computer can become in our lives. Everyone has busy lives, families of their own to raise, mortgages to pay, jobs to do and it is difficult to find the time that is needed to visit the seniors in our lives. With a computer you can keep in touch with your loved ones and share the events of your lives through social networks, e-mails and even video chat.

Being able to have family and friends at their fingertips seniors are less likely to suffer from depression where they feel they are left out of everyone’s lives, the computer allows them to be a part of them once again.

Entertainment
The internet offers an over abundance of entertainment and information. For a senior who is unable to get out and do their shopping they can logon to their favorite store and make purchases from the comfort of their own home. There is no need to get out in the bad weather and spend countless hours trying to locate the items they need. The internet makes it easy to review items, compare prices and quality and make purchases directly from home.

Information is offered on all topics and with interactive websites, videos and millions upon millions of articles offering information there is never a fear of running out of things to keep you entertained. For seniors they can logon and find anything they are interested in and get all the information they want about the topic.

Games help keep our minds sharp and as you age you need more stimulation to keep up, so computers can offer many levels of stimulation through games, music and movies. You can find games that are designed to stimulate the mind and keep your senses sharp and alert and with these it will help seniors to stay young and that feeling of course will decrease any signs of depression.

Computers can be a great addition to any seniors life, they are useful for not only the social interaction they need but for entertainment, mind stimulation and much more.
