Why use the snail mail to pay your bills? Use your home computer to pay them faster.

Many of us still use the good old snail mail to mail off payments to those we owe money to. If you think about it, we use the computer for email and the phone for text messaging. laptop-moneySo why not use the computer to pay bills? Many companies are making it easier for you to pay your bill from them online as well. In addition many are going paperless with their statements. Once a month you simply get an email regarding your bill and you can view your statement.

Believe it or not there are two ways you can go about using your computer to pay your bills. The first one is a fairly simple process, and just about every bank offers this feature. Using your computer, you sign into whichever bank you use. Next, you can look for the bill pay or online bill pay option offered on their website.  Each bank interface is a bit different but look for the add a vendor or add a new bill button.

Next you use the paper bill you have just received in the mail to fill out the necessary information. This is an important step, without it the bank will not know where to send the funds. This type of online bill pay usually takes anywhere from five to seven days for the vendor to receive their funds, so make sure you send out the payment early enough to avoid late fees. Most banks will show the approximate day the payment will arrive. I have seen online payments pass through as soon as 4 days.

Another simply and effective way is to log into the vendors web site when you receive your bill. When you look at your online statement there should be a bill pay option if the vendor offers such a feature. You simply input your credit card information and just like that your bill has been paid. Usually a receipt will generate and you will have the option to print it or save it to your computer for your records.  With this option you must use some type of credit card or bankcard to pay the bill and you pay the vendor directly.  Instead of the payment taking a few days to go through, your payment is instant. This type of payment is helpful if you’re running late on paying your bill.

While we are on the subject of using the computer for paying bills many are opting into the go paperless movement. It not only lessens the amount of paper your vendors send out but also cuts down on the amount of paper you receive in the mail. If you’re like most of us, you read the bill or letter and either set aside to pay or throw it out. I could not tell you how much junk mail we receive in the mail daily.

Hope this article helps to put those nerves at eases with just how easy it is to use your computer to pay your bills.
